A few days ago, I was invited to the Bon Appétit Kitchen to partake in a visual storytelling experience. We discussed color, styling and light as it relates to visual storytelling across various artistic platforms and mediums, all the while, eating hors d'oeuvres and lunch representative of a Ralph Lauren paint palette.
As a photographer, color, styling and lighting are of upmost importance in my work and also in my daily life; even if I am not working, these three elements play a large role in my inspiration. I am heavily inspired by the power of neutral and muted colors and the way in which they interact with the light and textures around them. Being within a beautifully designed and well-lit space also serves as one of my greatest sources of inspiration. If I am ever asked which is most important in making a beautiful image, the styling, lighting or color, I would have to say that the three form an equally important symbiotic relationship when it comes to the making of an image.
