Classic Minimal and Metallic

There is a reason why we ladies love accessories: they can completely transform the same ensemble into something completely different (hear that guys!? there is an actual reason for our innate love of shoes and bags). 

Starting with these culottes, this classic silk and maybe some comfy flats, I can create a classic, minimal daytime look by pairing them with this bag, wallet and watch (pictured below). Perfect for daytime appointments and meeting friends for coffee or lunch. 

As every other New Yorker constantly on the go, I like to maximize my time, especially when transitioning from day to evening. Doing a quick accessory swap, like throwing on some heels and adding a metallic bag, will completely make the ensemble cocktail and party-ready. I love this little bag, which is sleek, yet fits all of my evening essentials. Its a lovely (and easy!) way to add a bit of sparkle to an evening out.





Club Monaco Holiday 2015

Back in November, it was a blast working with my dream team to shoot the Club Monaco Holiday 2015 campaign. This project was so fun, that I wanted to share some of the images here in honor of the holiday season upon us.

Winter Inspired Looks with the Everlane E1 Capsule Collection, Marni & J.Crew

 I have a thing for sleeves with a dramatic shape. Think Thom Browne's Fall 2014 Collection or "leg- of-mutton" sleeves worn by Queen Elizabeth I..."Renaissance chic", if you will...

Anyway, when the Everlane E1 Capsule collection launched, I noticed that two of the pieces appeared to have my favorite leg-of-mutton-inspired sleeve shape (in a more subtle version). Needless to say, I bought these two items (the cashmere mockneck and the structured crop) the day the collection launched.

Another fun addition to the wardrobe is a Marni clutch/bag, which was acquired on a fun trip to Woodbury Commons with Simon Malls. I had never been to Woodbury Commons before, but will be sure to return as they have some of my favorite shops there (Céline, Chloé, Marni etc). It has removable straps so I've already used it as an everyday cross body, and as an evening clutch. It's trés versatile!


The Everlane E1 Structured Crop is a substantial mix of Italian wool, with a touch of cashmere, and has a hidden zipper on the right (pictured in the last image). I absolutely love this detail and how it can change the shape of the top by unzipping it a tad or keeping it fully zipped. Such subtle and smart details are what I love in a piece of clothing. Lastly, this J.Crew midi sweater skirt is a great skirt for winter and can be worn with almost anything. I have pretty much been wearing it with everything since I got it two weeks ago.

Geranium & 10 Things You Didn't Know About Chef Rasmus Kofoed

Chef Rasmus Kofoed, I think, is one of the most inspiring chefs around. Maybe it's because he holds three Bocuse d'Or metals, or because he is the brains behind the esteemed Geranium restaurant in Copenhagen, or maybe it's because his food and execution are just plain gorgeous. Whatever it may be, the more I learn about Chef Kofoed, the more inspiring, down to earth and just cooler I think he is. 

I met Chef Kofoed at Geranium when I was in Copenhagen. Inspired by his restaurant and his work, I decided to find out just who is the man behind this two star Michelin-rated restaurant. I was most interested in getting to know the Chef Kofoed outside of Geranium; I wanted to know the information that we can't find on Wikipedia (although, if you aren't familiar with Chef Kofoed, I do suggest that you read about him and all of his accomplishments)

...so I dug a little deeper...

Skateboarding


1. As a young boy, Chef Kofoed aspired to be a Professional Skateboarder 

2. In fact, Chef Kofoed still skateboards today. When he's not running Geranium, he can be found skateboarding at Skate Parken on his Bob Burnquist board

3. A little bird mentioned to me that Chef Kofoed had a fondness for rap music. It turns out that his favorite rap artist is R.A. the Rugged Man ...

4. ... and his favorite rap song is Nuthin' But a 'G' Thang

5. In addition to rap, Chef Kofoed is also a U2 fan and Bono is one of his favorite artists

6. I'm always fascinated by what chef's eat. It turns out that Chef Kofoed's go-to comfort food is falafel ...

7. ... and that his favorite indulgence is pancakes with vanilla ice cream and blackberry jam (well, that's understandable!)

8. If he is looking for a coffee or snack, he can be found at his favorite local coffee shop, Atelier September 

9. When Chef Kofoed is not wearing his chef's uniform, he can be found dressing casual and wearing Vans and/or clothing by his favorite designer, Hernik Vobskov

10. As for travel, San Sebastian is one of his favorite destinations

A Fall Winter Story

It is hard to believe that winter is upon us, since we are still experiencing fall weather. This is especially a treat since the NYC winters are long and harsh. Last year, I don't remember NYC having a proper fall or even spring, so I've been soaking up this fall winter weather.

Thanksgiving recently passed and since I was still feeling in the fall spirit, I decided to resurrect my cranberry tights, which I love wearing during the fall (I also thought they were apropos for Thanksgiving because...you know...cranberry sauce - ok that was a weak joke). I am an absolute sucker for Chloé shoes; they are extremely comfortable and I can wear them immediately without having to break them in. Needless to say, I jumped on this pair when they went on sale. I've scoured the internet to try and find these shoes still for sale, but it appears that they are sold out (in all colors). If you are interested in some similar options, these or these are cute too (I wish they had both in my size!). For my go-to black bag, I've also been using this, as it fits everything I need for a day around the city, like my current reading material and even a small camera.

Still House Spring/Summer 2016

Still House is one of my favorite stores in the city, as you probably know by now. I met owner, Urte Tylaite, when I photographed the store for Cereal Magazine, back in 2013 and we have since become friends.

Not only does Urte source beautiful objects to curate her store, but she also started her own jewelry line (also with the name Still House), which she sells in the store and via an impressive list of stockists. Her designs are made from basic geometric shapes and are motivated by simplicity and exploration. I love the minimal and elegant look of the pieces and also how beautifully Urte uses black and white diamonds throughout her designs. Needless to say, it was an absolute honor and pleasure to photograph her SS16 collection, which has recently launched. I could easily go on for many paragraphs about how creative and inspirational Urte is and how utterly gorgeous her designs are; however, hopefully the images will do all the talking...

Dorado Beach Culinary Getaway with Jose Andres, Anthony Bourdain, Eric Ripert & Jose Enrique

In early November I traveled to Puerto Rico, for the weekend, to attend the Dorado Beach Culinary Getaway with Dorado Beach, a Ritz Carlton Reserve. The weekend's events were hosted by chefs Jose Andres, Anthony Bourdain, Eric Ripert and Jose Enrique. It is challenging to summarize such a wonderful weekend in one mere blogpost, so I have decided to share (many) images and to mention the highlights of my weekend at the Culinary Getaway.



One major highlight of the weekend was meeting and photographing chefs Anthony Bourdain and Eric Ripert. I am (obviously) a long time admirer of Anthony Bourdain's work: his shows, which I love, his books and pretty much anything and everything he does. In the same realm, Eric Ripert was also high on my list of people I'd love to meet, as his restaurant Le Bernadin has been ranked among the world's best restaurants and has held three Michelin stars for over 10 years. Schedules only allotted about seven minutes (a seven minutes for which I was extremely grateful!) for me to photograph each chef so I had to be in work mode and couldn't waste time being a fan girl. There were a few minutes to spare after my shoot with Anthony Bourdain so I jumped on the opportunity to ask him for some recommendations for my upcoming trip to Vietnam. 

Spending the weekend at Dorado Beach, A Ritz Carlton Reserve was also a wonderful treat. The room was spacious with a beachfront balcony and a beautiful bathroom, which contained my dream bathtub and private outdoor shower (so refreshing in the morning!). The vast complex of the resort is a mix of lush tropical-rainforest-feel and luxury beach and (several) swimming pools. One could wander for hours around the resort exploring all of the little paths leading to beaches and exploring the many beautiful buildings and residences.

My favorite event from the Culinary Getaway was the Discussion with the Chefs Panel, held at Su Casa (which turned out to be one of my favorite spots on the property). The panel was initially scheduled to be held outdoors; however, a rainstorm had us relocate inside the Su Casa living room. This worked out for the better, as the event was held in an intimate setting, where the four chefs sat on the couch and took questions from the group gathered around them. It was quite incredible watching the four chefs interact with each other as friends, poking fun of one another, divulging each others silly secrets and talking about food and travel.
