Eager to get out of the (surprisingly) chilly October weather, I scurried into the lobby of the Charlotte Marriott City Center. Checked-in by friendly staff, I rushed to my room to take a warm shower and to bask in the late-afternoon sunlight, spilling through the window.

The newly renovated hotel is a soothing combination of earthy tones and minimal design: a polished and calming space to work and relax. No need to venture far for coffee, as there is an entrance to Coco and the Director on the ground floor. Enjoy a cup of locally roasted coffee and browse their shop filled with unique local goods.

In the colder months, head back upstairs to enjoy the relaxing room. If feeling indulgent, snuggle into the soft covers and watch an old flick (one can sign into their own Netflix account on the large TV). Before heading to a later dinner, stop at the hotel's Back of the House Pop-Up for a speakeasy-style cocktail or at the Bottle Shop to enjoy a bottle of wine with friends.

Most of all, enjoy the colors, the textures and all of the elements that make the rooms an enjoyable place to slow down, to relax and to just... be.
